Heaven Is

Updated: Feb 22, 2022

Heaven is,

Selling your first whole vegan cheese,

To a lovely young couple,

Who will take it to a picnic in peace.

It’s creating a smoky aged cheddar cheese,

When you are proud you thought it was perfect,

But when you video it,

You laughed out loud,

Because it looks like a big emoji smiley face,

But decided not to delete it.

It’s a surprise hug from a customer,

After you’ve had a break for six weeks.

Heaven is,

Getting goose bumps,

While you sing with your keyboard,

And you laugh out loud

Coz you just hit that hard chord.

It’s learning from the red doors that suddenly shut,

That broke our nose and heart and squashed our toes,

And not missing the yellow doors (1),

Coz when we choose to open it,

We’ll find trail teachers,

And signals and light there it goes.

It’s wearing your sister’s dress,

So you feel closer to her,

Coz missing her,

You will soon need to address.

Heaven is,

Knowing that ugly crying isn’t about depression,

That it’s a form of us evolving,

And allowing in purification.

It’s unknowingly having widened opportunities for others (2),

With just one short simple sentence or action.

Heaven is,

Sunrise like cotton candy put in place

On the rim of our plate,

So we can then,

Gratefully receive our grace.

It’s kicking your own arse,

For spraining your wrist,

Coz you were too busy joking around,

With the other stallholder’s twist.

It’s going to a party,

And my conversation with others went something like this:

Good to meet you.

Where’s your husband?

I said, I no longer have one.

They said, so why do you look so happy?

Heaven is,

Your bleeding heart,

For the zero opportunity to kiss (3) that someone new.

It’s recognising that one plant-based plate at a time,

Collectively, leads to regenerating our planet (4).

It’s forgiving (5) (6) (7) colonial history,

For executing Jose Rizal by firing squad at age 35,

Coz now we know,

That it’s always been disconnection,

That causes our ills and wars.

Resolution: Forgiveness and reconnection.

Heaven is,

To stop asking the Devine,

Which way is home?

Because ‘Genius has no country,’ (8)

We can make an impact,

No matter what land we stand on.

It is speaking our actions louder,

And closer to the truth.

Whether people like it or not,

Whether I am seen as a weirdo or someone who’s hot.

Make courage a habit (9),

Coz if we didn’t,

Tomorrow, we will just regret it.

It is when you focused on only one thing today (10),

But you know you gave it your best shot.

Who put the lock on heaven’s door? (11).

Quite often, WE do.

Knock, knock!

Whose there?

That is, entirely up to us.

Heaven is right here,

Wherever we want to transform it,

Whenever we need to evolve it.
